This page is dedicated to Gromit, the Wonder-Schnauzer from Wasilla, Alaska. During the summer of 2006 Gromit's people, my wife's brother and his family, decided to visit the Lower-48 for several weeks. Gromit, knowing that life is good in Alaska in summer, stayed behind. My wife and I were honored by the opportunity to take care of him in the absence of his regular people. Gromit, in turn, protected us from all sorts of birds, squirrels, strange noises and other yard invaders we couldn't see. He is a good dog.
Yet he stays active and fit. He knows that protecting his people is a big responsibility.
Gromit knows he has it good in Alaska. His blanket tells him that.
Gromit has a good friend who lives next door. Her name is Fluffy and she is a nice, young black lab. They spend many hours together exploring the neighborhood and just playing around. I thought Gromit and Fluffy were just good friends until I took the two photos below. They must have thought I was preoccupied taking photos of wildflowers.
I was a little surprised, but happy for them nonetheless.
Gromit also enjoys taking to the lake in a kayak. As with his people it is safety first, so he always wears a life vest. Having had a taste of the sea (or, in this case, the lake) he sometimes pines for adventure on the waves and will stand on the dock gazing wistfully at the water.
Gromit has an appreciation for many things: flowers, naps in the sun, friends, popcorn, walks, Milk Bones (except maybe the green vegetable ones), a scratch behind the ears, a soft blanket by a warm person, and many more. In exchange for these things he provides friendship, loyalty and protection from everything bad. Gromit is a good dog.
